Board Members

ROLE

The Appraisal District Board of Directors has a limited scope in District operations.  The Board of Directors has no authority over the setting of values.  The duties include:

  • Hiring of the Chief Appraiser
  • Setting of the budget of the District
  • Approval of contracts
  • Setting of policies and procedures of the Board of Directors
  • Appointment of Appraisal Review Board Members

SELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS

Beginning in 2024, the appraisal district’s board of directors will consist of nine members. Five members will be selected by the taxing units. Three will be elected in a countywide election. The county’s tax assessor-collector will be the ninth.

APPOINTED DIRECTORS

The five directors appointed by the taxing units by December 15, 2023 will serve one term that will expire on January 1, 2025. No later than December 31, 2024 the taxing units shall appoint five directors to serve beginning January 1, 2025. Two shall be appointed to serve a term of one year and three shall be appointed to serve a term of three years to establish a staggered term. No later than December 31, 2025 taxing units shall appoint two directors to serve a term of four years. No later than December 31, 2027 taxing units shall appoint three directors to serve a term of four years.

ELECTED DIRECTORS

The first election will be in May of 2024. The elected directors will take office on July 1, 2024, and serve terms that expire on December 31, 2026. There will be another election in November of 2026. The directors elected then will start their terms on January 1, 2027. In order to stagger their terms, two of those directors will serve four-year terms, and one will serve a two-year term.
